Hi all
As I’m sure you all know, I am organising a National Skydive Weekend in April 2010 to raise money for the National Kidney Federation and I would like to ask whether you would be willing to support the event by helping to recruit willing volunteers to make the leap! The most popular jump is the tandem skydive and the minimum sponsorship is £395 – if the participant raises at least £395, they do the jump for free. If every KPA recruited just one person who would like to do a skydive, you would help us raise over £8000 to help us continue providing help, support and advice to patients.
I hope you can help and if you would like a poster(s) to display please let me know. If you do know of anyone, please pass on the telephone number 01909 544999 or my email details and I will send them an information pack.
Participants can do the skydive on 24th or 25th April at any one of 26 locations across the UK.

Thank you to Dionne for nominating our charity in November to receive £1020.81, which was later matched by Nat West with £1000.00 in December, making a grand total of £2020.81. So a huge thank you very much to Dionne and her colleagues at Nat West.

Scales
On behalf of the renal
technologists, I would like to send thanks for the recent, generous funding of equipment
for our department.
Several weeks ago you were kind enough to purchase 3 calibrated Jadever JKH balances at a cost of £282. We have now taken delivery of these and are already putting them to good use. One of the most important calibrations that we perform on our haemodialysis equipment is that of fluid removal accuracy. This ensures that when the nurse programs the equipment to remove an amount of fluid the machine achieves the desired dry weight for the patient. Up until now the renal technologists have used various measuring cylinders to determine this volume. Usually only accurate to around 5ml of fluid, this has been the tried and tested method ever since the renal unit opened.
These new scales give an accuracy of 1gram, equal to about 1mililitre of fluid removal. During use, the fluid removed is displayed digitally on the scale, allowing the exact figure to be entered during calibration.
Overall, these scales will provide a great addition to our 'toolbox' allowing more accurate, consistent monitoring and calibration of our equipment.
Attached is a photograph of Steve, one of the technical team, with a set of scales.
Many thanks
