Scales
On behalf of the renal
technologists, I would like to send thanks for the recent, generous
funding of equipment
for our department.
Several weeks ago you were kind enough to purchase 3 calibrated Jadever JKH balances at a cost of £282. We have now taken delivery of these and are already putting them to good use. One of the most important calibrations that we perform on our haemodialysis equipment is that of fluid removal accuracy. This ensures that when the nurse programs the equipment to remove an amount of fluid the machine achieves the desired dry weight for the patient. Up until now the renal technologists have used various measuring cylinders to determine this volume. Usually only accurate to around 5ml of fluid, this has been the tried and tested method ever since the renal unit opened.
These new scales give an accuracy of 1gram, equal to about 1mililitre of fluid removal. During use, the fluid removed is displayed digitally on the scale, allowing the exact figure to be entered during calibration.
Overall, these scales will provide a great addition to our 'toolbox' allowing more accurate, consistent monitoring and calibration of our equipment.
Attached is a photograph of Steve, one of the technical team, with a set of scales.
Many thanks
